LHSLL Quarterfinal Playoff Weekend

2016 LHSLL Playoff Bracket 041516

April 15, 2016

The Louisiana High School Lacrosse League (LHSLL) post season continues this weekend with four quarterfinal playoff games.

Last weekend, #7 Ocean Springs and #8 Mandeville earned play-in game victories to advance to the eight team quarterfinals bracket. Ocean Springs defeated #10 Captain Shreve 19-8 in Play-In Game 1. Mandeville defeated #9 Catholic 13-9 in Play-In Game 2.

In this weekend’s action, the #1 Jesuit Bluejays (15-1) will host the #8 Mandeville Skippers (10-6) at 7pm tonight at Muss Bertolino Stadium in Kenner. Jesuit defeated Mandeville 18-5 in their South District matchup back on March 16. The Bluejays are the LHSLL South District Champion and four time defending LHSLL State Champion. Mandeville finished in fifth place in the South District. The Bluejays are led on offense by their outstanding senior attackman Max Murret. Senior goalie Rob Hinyub and defenseman Gray Cressy anchor a suffocating Bluejay defense. Mandeville will counter with attackmen Austin Danielson and Tristan Bellah. Defensively, the Skippers will look to defenseman Fisher Kimbrough and goalie Michael Andrepont to slow down the potent Jesuit attack.

The #2 Loyola Flyers (13-1), LHSLL North District Champion, will host the #7 Ocean Springs Greyhounds (9-4) at 5pm Saturday at Messmer Field in Shreveport. Attackmen Josh Mathias and Daniel Mazzanti along with midfielders Hayden Watts and Carter Windham lead the high flying Loyola offense. On the defensive side, Jonathan Murphy and Ethan Stansell draw the task of defending the Greyhound’s prolific attackman Landon Twiggs. This will be the first regulation game matchup between the Flyers and the Greyhounds.

The #3 Brother Martin Crusaders (9-3) will host the #6 Byrd Yellow Jackets (13-4) on Saturday at 2pm at Muss Bertolino Stadium in Kenner. Yellow Jacket attackman Alex Speir, along with speedy midfielders Bryson Smith and Seth Parker will look to sting the Crusaders. On defense the Jackets will look to Paul Van Hoy and George Mainous to lock down the Crusaders’ offensive firepower that will be provided by attackman Lee Davis and midfielder Jack Bryant. The Crusaders have a strong defense led by LSM Kerby Stieffel, defenseman Garrett Frey, and outstanding goalie Holden Savoie. The Crusaders defeated the Yellow Jackets 10-4 in an early season matchup.

In a game that pits the Central District Champion against the South District runner-up, the #4 St. Thomas More Cougars (5-6) host the #5 St. Paul’s Wolves (12-4) at 7pm Saturday night at Cougar Stadium in Lafayette. Crafty Cougar attackman Robert Sack along with midfielders Harrison Smith and Bennet Krampke will lead the offensive charge against the Wolves. Defensively, goalie Jacob Fenstermaker will look to LSM Cade Hernandez and defenseman Austin Gauthier to hold the Wolves in check. St. Paul’s is led offensively by attackmen Ryan Flood, Dylan Futrell, and Parker Hagood along with midfielders Eli Crosby and Kenneth Avanzino. The Wolves’ defense is led by defensemen Kevin Katich, Jake Vencil, and Robert Elis. Look for a good matchup between St. Thomas More’s James Oubre and St. Paul’s Zach Nunez at the faceoff X. The Wolves defeated the Cougars 11-8 in Lafayette back on March 5th.

Winners of the Quarterfinal Playoffs will advance to the LHSLL Final Four next weekend at Joe Yenni Stadium in Metairie.
